Have a Romantic Valentine’s Day in one of these fabulous Vermont bedrooms
For me, a cook and lover of good food, the center of any Vermont home is the kitchen. This is the room where we meet, where decisions are made, where guests mingle, where life happens. But Valentine’s Day is next week and as Cupid draws back his bow string, the center of the house shifts to the Boudoir.
Few things are sexier than sleeping in (and otherwise enjoying) a fabulous bedroom. I took a survey of current Vermont listings and checked out their bedrooms. From frilly to regal, here are a few of my favorites: the Clifford House in New Haven, Deerwood in Bridport, and a lake-view home on Thompson’s Point in Charlotte. Please click each bedroom image for a complete view of the property listing.
Let’s start with regal. The Clifford House (here on the left) is regal and balanced and wonderfully Palladian. The master bedroom ceilings are high and the room is somehow simultaneously intimate and expansive. I imagine one would wake feeling very elegant after a night in this room. The deck off the master bedroom has great sunrise views.
This Thompson’s Point bedroom (pictured right) is a bit more stately. A beautiful centerpiece for this private Charlotte home, the master suite is spacious and well-appointed. On the main floor, this bedroom has a whirlpool, excellent views and easy access to the wine cellar.
This home also has studio space above the attached 2-car garage – the perfect place to write that sonnet you’ve been meaning to compose…”And every fair from fair sometime declines / By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm’d / But thy eternal summer shall not fade.”
And finally the bedrooms at Deerwood Estate in Bridport: romantic and frilly and sumptuous with Lake Champlain views.
The house was built in 1830, so as your luxuriate in the Valentine spirit, you’ll feel a sense of lovers through the ages. Historic details include wide-pine floors and marble sills. Modern details include a gas fireplace and a hot tub.
I’m getting sleepy just thinking about these rooms. Wait a minute, maybe I’m not that sleepy after all…Happy Valentine’s Day.
